Leadership Newark develops alumni engagement plan for Link

Leadership Newark Team, with Monica Hall, Link ’06 second in on the right.

A team of fellows from Leadership Newark’s (LN) Class of 2017 presented the results of their Community Leadership Initiative Project, a study on alumni outreach and engagement, to the Link Education Partners Board of Trustees recently. The team studied alumni outreach practices in other local schools and offered a plan with some creative suggestions for Link to consider utilizing to engage its alumni.

LN offers “established and emerging leaders,” committed to Newark, the opportunity to participate in a two year public policy fellowship.  The Community Leadership Initiative places a group of fellows with non-profits in the city to apply knowledge gained from the first year of public policy seminars in order to tackle a capacity building challenge.  Link was one of three sites selected this year by LN for a project by their fellows.  Link applied to LN, hoping to tap into the expertise of the LN fellows to enhance our alumni program – to improve alumni outreach and engagement. Link Education Partners will begin to implement a renewed alumni effort this fall, based largely on the study provided by the LN team. (Note: one of the members of the LN team assigned to Link was a Link alumna – Monica Hall ‘06. Monica is currently employed as a program associate at the Victoria Foundation.)
